Another week. Sunday night and I am still trying to finish off homework.
Yes, I have never taken the time to browse you tube or google videos. It is a vry amazing piece of technology. I so enjoyed the videos about the Liverpool Plains, I was not aware of the proposed coal mining. It was beautiful to see the very old footagae of the ploughng of the land with the Clydesdale Horses.
I also enjoyed the lego videos. This is a resource that is easy to assess. I can't do it at our Tafe as there is no sound at the computers. The lack of sound, the lack of appropriate video access has made this unit really difficult to do. Which is unfortunate, as I think that it is very beneficial, especially to people such as myself you have not been exposed before to Flicker, blogging, wikis, the rss feeds and now the extent of you tube,
Although there is unnecessary frustration I am learning, but it is isolated learning as no one is following my blogs and I don't know how to access anyone else's in the class.

More work on the Wiki Tour
I was unable to brosw the PBwicki tour. I noted the suggestion to use Mozilla web browser. However as I am using a "shared computer" I haven't got permission to install this browser unfortunately it looks like I can't contribute to the wike - that is a shame.
I did have a look at the place names. Where I live in Nelson has no entry at all. Box Hill is mentioned but acknowledged that there are no entries.
The Rouse Hill one is off to a good start, but there is so much more that could be written about it.
The visit to the "possible Next Generation Catalogue" was extremely interesting and worthwhile. I think that the people who contributed are very passionate about their jobs and very committed. It was a real pleasure to read the entries. I was disappointed that I was not able to contribute to a more local wiki site.

Tuesday 22nd May - second post.
I have entered the world of Wikis and now understand why wikipedia is so not recommend by univrsity and Tafe professionals. It is not the information, people have the right to print their views. That is what blogging is about. But it is the reader who chooses to accept theinformation without question. I thought that Wookiepedia was a good example of that. I found this site fascinating, as I don't know anything about Star Wars and was impressed with people's passion and knowledge.
I found the Montana history wiki promising but at the same timedisappointing as the subject of 19thcentury women was one that I have researched in the past. I was really looking forward to this sit, but was disappointed when I couldn't open the link to collection as it was undergoing maintenance. But that is par for the course in the world of wikis.
The Mint Museum Uptown Wiki wasexcellent. The link was quick and the information about the museum absorbing. I did not know about this institution, so I learnt a lot. It wasvery informative.

22nd May 2012
It was good to return to my gmail reader to see that the rss feeds to thePowerhouse Museum has worked so effectively. I was enchanted with the photograph of Palmer's Mystery Hike No. 20 in the Lower Blue Mountains in 1932. I found the accompanying story from the SMH to be very interesting.
I was also pleased with having direct access to a vast amount of historical photographs.
The feed to the blogines is completed but I beliee it is too much information to trawl through. On the otherhand my feed to the ABC News has already given me great satisfaction and I can see that this is going to be of real help in staying abreast of the daily news and also of getting a broader view of the news.
Technology wise, I seem to becoming out the othersideof this steep learning curve. Now that I have had a password that aworks for the tafe computer it has meant that I have been able to work on the blogs at Tafe. This gave me the opportunity of showing my teacher where I was stumped. Fortunately Vicki identified that my blog did not have a "dashboard". What a reakthrough moment for me that was.
With a dashboard, I can now work out how to do a fresh post.

I think I have done it or at least half achieved. Within flicker I have a gallery but haven't worked out yet how to connect gallery to this blog.
I will have a try after all manner of work tomorrow

Flicker Tour and Selecting Photographs for my gallery.
I have learnt about the thousands of historical images that are avaiable on flicker. It is a very rich resource. I have searched and chosen images from the Cultural Collections University of Newcastle. I have saved into a gallery.
My current challenge is to upload a photograph in this blog. I can't see any way on Flicker to do it directly and there definitely doesn't appear to have any copying facility and rightly so, because of copyright, I suppose.
So I will see how long it takes me to work this out. It is 8.50 now. I have been on Flicker for 90 minutes. So I will work at it for another 30 minutes.

Have found the key
Blogging without a dashboard was my experience. At last though, I have the steps or rather familiar icons now to follow. Not sure if this is a learning experience or a n endurance trek.
Monica's Second Post about blogs
So far, it has proved quite difficult, this learning to blog. There are so many names and passwords and new addresses to organise. There is this great big feeling of the unknown with no map to guide me. In a time long gone, one could compose an essay or letter and there it would be in front of you, the writer had the control over where that creative piece of writing would go. Whether it be posted by mail and sent to someone in particular, or perhaps become a letter to the editor of a well known newspaper, the writer knew where his or her message would appear.
But no, not in the blogging world, there is no such assurance. Where am I actually blogging, I ask myself. All I hope is that my teacher can see this blogg and will understand that I am trying.
